My BFF
Martha, oh Martha
Since my birthday is coming up and I don't think that I'm going to get a party...most likely I'll just get dinner from my parents... I think I will have to plan a party when I move into my new apartment and get settled in.
I have mixed feelings about Martha Stewart. To be sure, she is chronically fierce, she did do jail time! However, I've never really been that into her as a person. On her TV Christmas specials she always bosses her family around and ends up doing all their craft projects for them. Bossy people and I don't really get along. I belong to a more fluid school of thought.
Even though I have issues with Martha and her personality, I still think whoever comes up with the ideas that get credited to her name is a genius! On her website I found a polka-dotted party theme. If I mix it with some of the things featured in the rain-themed party article in April's issue of RealSimple I think my housewarming/birthday party could be completely adorable! I love the umbrellas hanging from the ceiling...but that might be too much in my apartment.
Low ceilings + decorative umbrellas+ a 6'5" boyfriend= disaster.
Grazing Grasses
We have these plants where I work: Pier 1. And I'm absolutely bonkers about them. I got one of them with some Pier 1 bucks I earned, and now I want 2 more of them. I have 3 wall boxes that I want to fill with these plants when I move into my new apartment. The only draw back of these cute babies is that they are $8 a pop...but to me, they are worth it. Hopefully, I can be a good employee and earn more Pier 1 bucks that I can spend on these. They're the centerpiece of my new dining room after all.
DIY update: I got the fabric for my wall decor project! Still no luck finding the frames. Since I don't have access to my staple gun it's not really a pressing project. I decided to go with black and white. I love black and white! Most of my house is decorated with it except for the things that I've inherited from people. I got 12 inches of 45 in. bolts of polka-dots (of course), different sized stripes, and a baroque styled floral pattern. They go really well together. I got the whole lot for 6 bucks because the fabric was 40% off. I love a good sale on quilting fabrics! Since I got more fabric length then I needed I'm thinking about doing 1X2 or 3 ft rectangles placed horizontally so that the wall decor will elongate the look of my hallway. Apartment ceilings are always so low! Well... my current apartment is on the basement level, my new one is going to be on the third floor!
I'm really excited about upper-level living! I finally get to open my windows without having to freak out about my apartment getting broken into and my stuff getting stolen, and I'm going to have way more sunlight, not to mention the exercise of climbing the stairs!

Decor Galore
Lately, I've been obsessed with home organization magazines, a la Real Simple, and Home and Garden. I guess it's because I'm so pumped to move into my own space.
I came across a really neat and cheap DIY project for wall decorations on RealSimple.com. The concept is really easy, covering frames like you generally would when you're making a canvas for a painting. Only, instead of using boring canvas you get to use glamorous prints from the fabric store.
However, I'm having some trouble finding the pre-made frames. I struck out at Michaels when I went to go look last night. All is not lost! I've been assured that they are available at the local art supply store, Mish Mish. I just have to find time to get down there... Blacksburg parking is such a pain on Main St..
I've got more then a month to find the materials, but my staple gun is just itching for some action after I had to fix my mattress. My boyfriend and I broke the box-spring...
Tres Oops!
Pretty. Fierce.
18 days until my 21st Birthday!
Maybe I'll be getting a cake like this for my birthday?
Steve has been planning a surprise for me in a neighboring town, and he won't drop any hints!
My best friend won't be able to make it, I'm not sure where I'll be living after my birthday, or where anyone will stay.
And my parents are coming into town so I can't do a traditional shin-dig.

A little abode to have and to hold.
I'm so anxious/excited to move. Completely want to move. Would move this second if I could. I haven't actually been to my apartment in a month except to get supplies and mail. I've been sleeping on a blow-up mattress in my boyfriends room during that month. Why? Because my roommate turned out to be insane and my parents fear for my safety, as do I, so I'm on orders not to stay there or go there without someone with me. The little house that Amanda built has crumbled. I haven't seen my stuff, I'm paying rent for this place, and utilities, and I'm really going nuts. Freaking loosing my mind. And all this time, she is using my stuff cause the whole apartment is furnished with my things. Doesn't seem very fair does it?
But I'm happy living on a blow-up mattress with my boyfriend. I really don't think about my living situation much until bills roll around, which means there will have to be some sort of contact. And that terrifies me. I moved out because she flat out refused to respect my request to be left alone and to communicate only about bills on our message board. Flat out refused to the point of harassment. I was harassed, but you can't get a restraining order against someone you live with.
What a pity.
