Catalog Living!

While I was having a three course facebook stalk, I came across this:
Catalog Living: In which the author tells the story of catalog pictures from the voice of faux-couple Elaine and Gary.

Maybe I find this so hilarious because I've secretly always wanted to be in a home and garden catalog...

Enjoy!

What to Do, What to Do?

I know, I know:  I've been such a busy beaver with the house, just trying to catch up with everything, that I haven't blogged in a day or two...or a week or two.

I'm really loving being at home more.  So far, I've been able to cook dinner for Mr. S, keep up with the dishes, go grocery shopping on a semi-regular basis, vacuum like a crazy lady, finish painting our bedroom, keep up with the laundry, clean out our smallest room (as much as I can since it's still housing a 10 ft ladder), and spend last night in a vegetable state in front of the TV.

Spending time in front of the TV watching You're Cut Off (horrible show) tells me that I need to expand my projects. Especially since Mr. S's extended family will be in town in 3 weeks. EEP!

To-Do List:
  • Measure for and order new blinds.  Won't the house look nice from the outside when you won't be able to see my curtains?  And won't it be nice to not have to worry about the neighbors getting a peep show?  Indeed!
  • Mulch in the backyard and in the hydrangeas...possibly move the hydrangeas too...sorry hubs...
  • Plant around AC unit
  • Weed, whack, and mow the yard.
  • Paint the kitchen, living room, and stairways
  • Hang new rods and curtains in basement
  • Sand, prime, paint, trim out the room in the basement.
  • Hang mirror in living room
  • Buy area rugs for first floor/living room
Now...how much can I realistically expect to complete?

Since I've bored you with my monotonous list, here is something cute: Mila's Daydreams.  Check out that creative mothering! Love it.

Well, It Finally Happened:

And it had to happen sometime, right? I mean everyone can't be my mother who has NEVER been pulled over by the cops (She is in her 50's, I might add). But yes, I got pulled over and issued a speeding ticket.

Well, balls.

I've always thought I'd break down crying when I got pulled over.  However, I kept it together.  Yes, sir.  Thank you, sir.  Have a nice day, sir.  I blame my retail conditioning.

I keep trying to comfort myself by repeating that I was going under what I thought the speed limit was: 45. Not the 25 mph it turned out to be. My bad.

Looks like vacation, braces, and this rug might have to go on the back burner for a while until I pay off my damage.  I'm not even thinking about if I'll need to take a driving improvement class.  Oh help!  Those take up an entire Saturday.  I only know this from my car accident when I was 17.  Legally, they claim it was my fault, but I will go to my grave professing the laws of cause and effect (soap box).

Isn't it always when this happens that you start thinking...I should have gone back to work for my cell phone or gone out to dinner with the gals (which must be arranged) or I should have been anywhere but driving home to spend a boring night on the couch.

What's My Age? Like, 95?

Today I had enough with my cardigans flipping open on me at work and exposing my cami straps. I took a stroll over to Etsy and found this little vintage gem of a sweater guard.

Yes, I realize these are ancient, but, I think they should make a come back.  I've seen them sported by the guidance counselor on Glee, and dang it, it's a functional bauble.

A functional bauble that my granny might just happen to sport with me.

The Proof is in the Pudding

I love pudding, but that's completely unrelated to the amazingness that is Christopher Hitchens.  Come to think of it...maybe that's what I should have talked to him about.  Definitely memorable, no?

Mr. S and I took two friends into the city to celebrate the release of Christopher Hithens' new book Hitch 22 with, none other, than the magnanamous "Hitch" himself.

The whole evening was like something out of a Southern Baptist revival.  Bodies sat poised on the edge of their pews, frantically fanning themselves, steeping back the overflow of passion for the new wave of critical thinking and athiesm.*

I was converted and dumbfounded when I actually got to meet and greet with a great mind, a political commentator ,and a professional debator...and get him to sign two of my books.  There was a limit on how many books you could get signed, which was fortunate because I don't know if I really wanted to take Why Orwell Matters and The Portable Athiest on the metro.  To heavy for even my ambitious self.

It was truly an honor to be able to see him speak in public since, just this week, he announced on this publicists website that he is canceling the rest of his book tour to fight throat cancer.  To read about that bomb drop, ABC has a nice write-up here.

This is concerning, but I'm pretty sure he's got enough hutzspah to get through chemo and then some.

*That, and it was at a synagogue, the AC was out, and it was hosted by the Center for Inquiry.
