Well my to-do list did get a little bit shorter before the family arrived.

The To-Do List:
  •  Measure for and order new blinds. Won't the house look nice from the outside when you won't be able to see my curtains? And won't it be nice to not have to worry about the neighbors getting a peep show? Indeed! (When I measured and checked prices it turned out this was going to be a very expensive project.  So it might take a while to complete)
  • Mulch in the backyard and in the hydrangeas...possibly move the hydrangeas too...sorry hubs...
  • Plant around AC unit
  • Weed, whack, and mow the yard.
  • Paint the kitchen, living room, and stairways
  • Hang new rods and curtains in basement
  • Sand, prime, paint, trim out the room in the basement.
  • Hang mirror in living room
  • Buy area rugs for first floor/living room

DC Weekend

Mr. S's extended family was in town this past week.  I really loved having them in town since it contributes to my knowledge of card games.

My favorite part was going into the city for the day. The Big S's little cousin, who is 14, wanted to see Georgetown Cupcake.  You may know them better as DC Cupcake on TLC.  Since we drove into the city, I stayed in the car with S and dropped them off.  M st. was crazy so we spent the entire time trying to circle back around to get them.  While we were doing that I spotted a canoe rental shop called Jack's Boathouse in down-town Georgetown that I really want to go back and try as well as an icecream or gellato (not sure which) shop that looked delicious.  We never made it into Georgetown Cupcake, but we still got to reap the rewards because they brought us some yummies back.  I had the lava and it was delicious!

After that, we made our way to Union Station, which is beautiful.  It's this grand, old train station in the heart of the city where it is impossible to park.  It had some good shopping and a bike rental shop that looked pretty neat.  My favorite part was the statues that were gifted to the US from Italy, and were equipped with nudity shields once they crossed the Atlantic.  Union Station also appeared to be more pigeon friendly than other DC buildings and I dug that.  It reminded me a lot of Trafalgar Square in London.  At the station we boarded a trolley for a night-time tour.  The seats were uncomfortable, to say the least, but we got to pick up some cool facts and legends.

I really want to go back to the United States Botanical Garden.  I never knew we had a national garden!  I'm  just stoked that it's free.

I've been trying to find more things to do in the city so that S and I can spend a weekend there doing mostly un-touristy things.  So if you know of any good places to check out, please let me know!
